Complete these steps before you install the printer software on your computer. Looking for the driver? If you did not already set up the hardware, follow the steps in this document to do so first. But, if you already installed the hardware and are just looking for the driver to download, go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page. Setting up the printer Follow these steps in order. When you are finished, you can click the appropriate link at the end of this document if you need instructions to install the printer software. note Do not connect a USB cable now. If you plan to use a USB cable to connect the printer to the computer, you will be prompted to connect it at the correct time during the software installation. Step one Check the contents of the box The contents might vary by country/region. See the packaging for a list of items shipped in the box. Step two Unpack the printer Follow these steps to unpack the printer. Remove all tape and packing materials from outside the printer. Lift the carriage access door, and then remove all tape and packing materials inside the printer. caution To avoid injury, make sure the carriage access door is fully raised before removing the tape and packing materials. Line up the input tray extender with the input tray. Push the input tray extender onto the input tray until it is seated. Figure Install the input tray extender Place the output tray on top of the input tray extender. Push the tray inward until it snaps into place. Figure Install the output tray Step four Connect the power cord Turn the printer to access its rear side. Connect the power cord to the rear of the printer. Plug the power cord into the power supply. Plug the other end of the power cord into an electrical outlet. Figure Connect the power cord and power supply Step five Turn on the printer Adjust the display to a comfortable angle, and then press the Power button to turn on the printer. Figure Adjust the display and then press the power button Step six Load paper in the tray Use the following steps to load paper in the input tray. Raise the output tray. Figure Raise the output tray and then pull out the input tray extender if necessary To load oversized paper, pull the input tray extender out as far as possible. Slide out the paper width guides as far as possible. Insert a stack of clean, unused, plain paper into the input tray with the short edge forward and the print side down. caution Do not load paper while the printer is printing. Jams or paper feed issues might occur. Position the stack of paper in the center of the input tray, and then slide the stack forward until it stops. Adjust the paper width guides so that they rest against the stack of paper. Do not push the guides in so tightly that they bind against the paper. Figure Load the paper, and then adjust the paper width guides Load the paper Adjust the paper guides Lower the output tray, and then pull out the tray extender. Figure Lower the output tray, pull out the tray extender and then flip up the paper catch Pull out the output tray extender Flip up the paper catch Step seven Set the language and country/region Follow these steps to set the language and country/region. On the printer control panel, touch the Down Arrow until the desired language displays. Touch the desired language, and then touch Yes to accept the language setting. Touch the Down Arrow until the desired Country/Region displays. Touch the desired Country/Region, and then touch Yes to accept the country/region setting. Step eight Install the cartridges Follow these steps to install the print cartridges. caution Failure to install the SETUP cartridges that came with the printer causes a cartridge error. Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on. Lift the carriage access door, and then open the cartridge access door. Figure Lift the carriage access door, and then open the cartridge access door Lift the carriage access door Open the cartridge access door Remove the setup cartridge from its packaging. Hold the cartridge so that the cartridge contacts are facing toward the printer. Slide the new cartridge into its slot, and then gently push it forward until it clicks into place. note Make sure that the colored dot on the cartridge label matches the colored dot on the slot. Figure Install the cartridge into its color-coded slot Repeat these steps for the other cartridges. Figure Install all the cartridges Close the cartridge access door, and then close the carriage access door. Getting started with ePrint Now you can stay connected and productive on the go with ePrint. ePrint lets you print directly to your ePrint-enabled HP printer using a smartphone, notebook, or other mobile device. For additional information related to setting up and using ePrint, click the link provided. Try the below suggestions - Step 1 Restart the computer Restart the computer, and then try installing the software again. If the problem persists, continue to the next step. Step 2 Make sure the print spooler service is running The print spooler service temporarily stores files to be printed in a print queue until the printer is ready to process each print job. If the print spooler service is not running when you install the printer software, it can cause the software installer program to stop without an error message or warning. Search Windows for view local services, and then click the View local services control panel setting in the list of results. Scroll down to Print Spooler, and then make sure the print spooler status is Started. If the print spooler service is started, skip to the next step to install the printer software. If the print spooler is not started, continue with these steps. Right-click Print Spooler, and then click Properties. If the Startup type is set to Manual or Disabled, click the drop-down list, click Automatic, and then click Apply. Under Service status, click Start, and then click OK. Restart the computer, and then continue to the next step. Step 3 Install the printer software from Download and install the latest software for your printer from the HP website. Go to click Download, and then follow the instructions to download and install the recommended software for you printer. If the software does not open or your printer cannot be found, continue to the next step. Step 4 Install the printer software from HP Customer Support For some HP LaserJet printers, you might have to go to HP Software and Driver Downloads to download and install your printer software. Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads. Type the printer model, and then click Submit. Make sure the operating system is correct. Locate the full feature software and driver, click Download, and then follow the instructions. If the HP installation does not start automatically, find the file on your computer, For HP LaserJet Pro P1102, P1606dn, and P1566 printers Open File Explorer, navigate to the C\ drive, and then find the LJP1000-_1560_P1600_Full_Solution folder. For HP LaserJet Pro M12 printers Open File Explorer, navigate to the C\ drive, and then find the LJPM11-M13_Full_Solution folder. The printer is setup for wireless printing on the network, will print with the Windows supplied drivers If we point it to the IP of the printer, but it will not allow the software to install when we run through it. I have tried uninstalling all HP software from the computer, tried a reboot then reinstalled the software again with no luck. When it eventually seems to give up/time out, it states that the installation failed but doesn't seem to give an error at all, just a retry button, cancel button or help button. I have tried the HP print and scan doctor, with similar results on its attempt to reinstall things afterwards. This printer software installed fine on another computer, also on Windows 10, on the same network, so I know it is not the printer alone, or the network. I have a third computer on the network that the software seemed to install on, but it does not give access to all of the correct paper sizes and doesn't seem to see it to scan to either. The only other thing I can think of that both of the non installing PCs have in common is they are both Lenovo computers, and the one with no problems is a Dell. Yes No ‎04-15-2017 1023 PM HP Recommended Mark as New Bookmark Subscribe Permalink Print Flag Post On the computer that was not showing the right sizes, I did get that to fix using these in working with the computer that wouldn't install the printer on the network successfully, I tried what you suggested and got the same result it gave me before, it failed on the install, I asked it to troubleshoot, it downloaded the diagnostic dll and tried again and failed again...the error or message at the end simply said it failed and offered me to retry again, not giving any error number or anything. I then tried a clean reboot on the Windows 10 machine, did the Microsoft install helper you suggested, uninstalled with it, then tried the reinstall again, and again it hung on after selecting wireless printer setup and just said "installing Network Printer" for a very long time, then said "Unsuccessful network installation" and "the printer was unable to be installed over the network" like it always does...Any other suggestions? I have some information I pulled from a Belarc Advisor profile, if any of that will help, but at this point, I can't imagine what is stopping this from working.
